6–8 months

9–11 months
Thicker oatmeal made from well-cooked oats.
Thick oatmeal your baby can scoop with a spoon or their hands, depending on their skills.
12–23 months
Thicker oatmeal or soft cooked oats in other dishes.
Thicker oatmeal or soft oats your child can eat on their own.
Choking risk
Dry or undercooked oats can be hard to swallow. For babies, cook oats thoroughly until soft and smooth. Always stay with your child while they eat.
