Farmer cheese (cow’s milk) for babies

  • From 6 months
  • Allergen

You can introduce farmer cheese made from cow’s milk once your baby shows signs of being ready for solids, usually around 6 months. Cow’s milk isn’t recommended as a main drink before 12 months, but cultured and other dairy foods like yogurt and cheese can be offered earlier in small amounts once your baby starts solids.

Farmer cheese provides protein and calcium.

Choking risk

Farmer cheese is soft, but large dense curds can be hard to swallow. For babies, choose a soft farmer cheese and mash it more if needed to make it smoother. Always stay with your child while they eat.

Allergies

Cow’s milk protein is one of the major food allergens. A reaction can happen even the first time your baby tries it.
