How to serve by age
6–8 months
Fully cooked salmon with every bone removed, mashed or flaked into very soft pieces.
A large, soft, boneless piece or strip that squishes easily between your fingers.
9–11 months
Soft pieces or larger flakes of fully cooked, boneless salmon.
Soft pieces your baby can pick up.
12–23 months
Bite-size pieces of fully cooked, boneless salmon.
Pieces or strips that are easy to hold and eat.
Choking risk
Fish should be fully cooked and checked carefully for bones. Even small bones can be dangerous. Match the texture to your child’s stage: offer fish as soft flakes or small soft pieces. Always stay with your child while they eat.
Allergies
Fish is one of the major food allergens. A reaction can happen even the first time your baby tries it.
